I am somewhat frequently in London and I always try to explore new hotels. As I am still loyal to the Hilton Group I try to choose different Hilton family properties.
Last week I had the chance to get a reasonable rate at the Doubletree by Hilton London Westminster. This hotels was part of the former MINT group which was merged with Hilton last year IIRC.
Hotel entrance and lobby look very new and modern. I had a really friendly check in experience, got the hotel’s services explained as well as the HHonors benefits. Really friendly – what a great first impression.
Went to my room and was surprised. Let the pictures speak:
Unfortunately the large king size bed consists of two single mattresses :( A bit uncomfortable due to the gap.
Very modern furniture and interior. Everything in working order. Haven’t had such a nice room lately.
Bathroom is a bit small, but ok.
All rooms have an iMac computer to watch TV, entertainment program and to access the internet. Free WiFi was also available throughout the hotel.
As in most Doubletrees I got my cookie during check in:
2 free bottles of water in my room.
Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members get the same benefits as explained on the welcome letter. So this property does not make a difference between Gold and Diamond. Not nice but that seems to be the trend for most Hilton properties anyways. As you can buy HHonors Gold for just 48€ a year or even less, almost everyone is a Gold member nowadays. And even Diamond status can be reached without staying often in Hilton hotels. For me a valid reason to change my loyalty.
I enjoyed the free full breakfast in the restaurant and like to highlight again the friendly staff. I really felt welcome in this hotel.
To summarize, I really like this hotel. Could become my No 1 favorite in London, winning over the Hilton London Olympia. The only downside is the bed. Will try a queen size room next time.
